I have an LG VX6100. I be to be able to pull pictures off of it but I can't figure out how to connect to it with Linux. It's plugged into a USB port. Now what? kwikdisc doesn't see anything to mount. No devices pop up on the desktop either. I met Rikki Rocket the drummer from Poison yesterday and have pics I want to show off but I can't get them off my phone!Rikki is a really nice guy by the way.
I have an LG400 phone and the only way I can figure out how to get pics from the phone to the computer is to email them. This requires a subscription to my cell system supplier for internet access and this is costing me $9.95/mo. My supplier is AT&T formerly Cingular. I don't experience who your cell system supplier is but a phone call to their customer service department might back up. You are not the first person to have this problem. There ought to be a way to use the bluetooth feature on the cell phone to transfer files to a PC but. I can't get MEPIS to pair with my bluetooth devices. Good luck!
bushel. I don't have bluetooth and I'm not paying the phone company any more money! LOL. As powerful as Linux is. I'll bet there's a way to detect the phone and displace pics off of it. There is a free program called Bitpim that I used on XP. But it doesn't be to work on Win98 for me. I wonder if it ordain bring home the bacon under Wine?
Bitpim has a Linux version however is doesn't run under 6.5 (it might under 7.0? when final) You'll need to modify permissions and such to get it to work. I'd have do look at my notes to see what I did to get it working. A "quick fix" might be to look for archive versions of Bitpim. A version 4 or 5 approve might just work under W98. Just looked and the Bitpim site is listing W98 as an option. Older releases are available at Sourceforge. The "Deb" is compiled on Ubuntu Fiesty. I tried this on 6.5 and it was a no go.
Bitpim works just fine (for me) on Mepis 6.5 (32-bit). EDIT: (Tho. I notice now that it claims that it only works for 'CDMA' phones.. e g. Verizon!?)Configuring bluetooth is the tricky part... I hadto google around a bit to evaluate it out. First of cover is that you need a 'bluetooth adapter' for your PC. That's easy, they are available for as little as about $15 from NewEgg. This also assumesthat your phone is bluetooth-capable. [If your phone isn't bluetooth then youneed to get a 'data-cable' that fits your phone's data-cable port. Try the'cellphonemall net' website for those. That's how I did it on my PREVIOUS cellphone.]Bitpim claims it works with both data-cables and bluetooth. So keep at it... Bitpim should work (at least for CDMA!?) once you hit the books to configure the underlyingbluetooth hardware/software or connect the needed data-cable. I posted details about the bluetooth stuff ina previous thread approve maybe six months ago or so. alter: Yeah look here:Hope this helps... Dave

I undergo a Samsung A707 (SYNC) and the only way I have been able to connect it to the computer is through bluetooth. The USB connection does not recognize the phone as a device. I can connect it through USB through my XP booted up through VMware player though.
Thanks. I think I experience the problem. I just have to fix it. Bitpim is working. It's Win98 that is the problem. I need the drivers for the phone or cable or something. My hardware profiles in Win98 are showing problems with the drivers for "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM". It tried to install drivers when I plugged the phone in and didn't find them of course. So. I'm off to google some more. I open what I thought I needed but windoze being the virus that it is doesn't be to lay the driver labelled for Win98 or any other driver for that be. I'll get it sooner or later.
Ghostdog,Here's a link that might help as Scott Morris (a well known Linux techie from Novell) also has the LG VX6100. He did use the linux version of bitpim. Scott has some nice tutorial screenshots re config screens cerebrate to bitpim: use "KPackage" to lay the deb version open at the above site.
Thanks but I can't figure out how to force it to take the program. I get an error because it's 32 bit and I have a 64 bit system.
Bitpim is working on Win98 but I can't sight the driver I need for my data cable. I have no idea where I found it in the first place. My cable didn't come with a CD.
